Hi and welcome to the first 2 levels of Building Blocks

While these take some time commitment on your part as a parent, the results will be worth the 20 minutes a day you invest.

These exercises start nice and simple, because we are tracking right back to Preschool levels to make sure that every skill required for learning is fully engaged. So, if you child is a bit older, don’t worry that they find these easy or dull. It is better to take a little time and make sure we have these simple skills, rather than get further down the track only to find we have missed some of the essential basics.

This will also include a results sheet, where you can keep track of the days to make sure you do each of the required vision therapy exercises. For a brief introduction and explanation of what the program is doing for your child,

PLEASE WATCH THIS INTRODUCTORY VIDEO FIRST…

  1. We would like you to watch the video, where Darin will explain what therapies are being done and briefly how to do them.
  2. You need to download your lessons, which come as a .PDF, able to be read on most computers, your phone or tablet. Save these to your computer/tablet/phone, and this is usually done my right clicking on the image and selecting “save as” or “save link as”
  3. Do the therapies for that lesson, allowing a good, solid 5 minutes on each activity. We ask you to try to do them once a day, every day for 2 weeks, then stop all of them and move onto the next lesson.
  4. Click on the link at the bottom of each page for a computer version of them. While this may seem more fun, it is far more important to do these exercises in the real world, with pencil and paper, rather than in the virtual world of a computer screen of tablet. Remember, we want results not just fum, and the evidence is that he results are far better for pencil and paper verses on screen exercises.
  5.  Included with each lesson is a results sheet, where you can keep track of the days to make sure you do each of the required vision therapy exercises.

Remember the Rules of Vision Therapy…

1. You need to do all required exercises DAILY

And it will generally take about 20 minutes per day) and we ant to aim for every school day in the week. Remember, this will be an intensive over 6-8 months, so it is worth putting the effort over that time, knowing that this commitment won’t be going on for years (which many other forms of therapy do!).

2. You can do the exercises at any time of the day you wish,

Either in the morning, after school early evening, or whenever you have a chance to do them. However,I would caution you to try and make it a regular time, don’t change it from day to day. Routine needs to be your friend, not your enemy!

3. The exercises should change every 2 weeks,

So please do you best to ensure that you do not fall too far behind. If you fall behind, you can do the exercises twice in a day to catch up.

4. IF YOU DO NOT FULLY UNDERSTAND THE THERAPY, my advice is to simply do the exercise as you understand it, as well as you can.

Many times if parents do not fully understand the exercise they just leave it, and nothing gets done. You are far better to do the exercise badly than not at all, and given that many exercises treat the same condition, you can probably pick up the slack with a later exercise.    So please, don’t skip therapies, just do them even if you are not sure if you’re doing them the right way. You won’t cause any damage to your child.

5. This is essential… HAVE FUN!

I have included some advice later on how to deal with difficult children and get them to do their therapies, but for now the main message is to keep things fun and enjoyable, not tense and painful. If you find things are getting a bit much, see the link below for advice.

Remember, even if you are unsure as to the exact details of the therapy, please do them as best you can, because doing something incorrectly is going to be better than doing nothing at all!

Each level should be done for 2 weeks only (there are 2 levels in this download, so do the first for 2 weeks, then change to the second level for the next 2 weeks), and we want to try and do them at least 5 out of 7 days in the week.

 

I find the best way to do this is to spend 20 minutes a day WEEKDAYS ONLY, and have weekends off (or for catchup if you didn’t do them enough during the week)
