Dr Darin Browne, Your Optometrist on the Sunshine CoastMy name is Darin Browne, and I have been the behavioural optometrist Sunshine Coast parents turn to when they are concerned about their child’s vision for over 20 years.  We are a family practice in a Hinterland town, but because we have innovative and proven ways to help children with learning disabilities we have become a thriving, fun practice for children of all ages, and the entire family!

Being a children’s behavioural optician is not a job, it’s a passion…and it’s what Eye CU is built around.  If you are concerned about your child’s learning ability or how well they can see, or if you’re searching for a reason why your child is struggling at school, then you’ve come to the right place!

If your child is struggling to learn, you will want to take action immediately, so here are some actions steps you can focus on to help your child…

1. Understand that not all Optical Stores have a Behavioural Optometrist

Caring for your visionOn the Sunshine Coast there are many great Optometry groups, but that does not mean they know a lot about children’s vision.

Many of them claim to test the eyes of children with learning difficulties, but they have their focus on things other than children.  Like most professions, Optometrists tend to do more of what they love and are passionate about.

Frankly, some are more into their favourite area than others, and I confess that I am totally into kid’s vision!  I love it, and work hard to be the best I can be.  The trouble is, many of those claiming the title are often not true Behavioural Optometrists, but just practitioners who dabble in holistic optometry.

Behavioural practitioners like me are those who not only look at children and actively use special lenses and eye exercises called vision therapy to treat specific problems with the eyes and brain development that can have a major impact on learning.

I have a proven track record of success and am working with kids every day of every week.  That’s why so many schools, reading tutors and school counselors refer children to Eye CU, where we regularly see kids improve at anything from learning the letters, spelling and writing letters in reverse right through to more advanced skills which aid reading flow and comprehension.

Has your child already had a eye exam at another Optometrist?  That’s OK, come and see us anyway at no additional charge, and we will try to go above and beyond where any other Sunshine Coast Optometrist does!

2. Download Our Free Symptom List and See for Yourself How Learning can be affected by any Eye Problem

Download our exclusive checklist for free and fill it out.  You will be able to score your child and see how vision is affecting their learning.

Then bring the list with you when you visit us, or if you have any questions, give our office a call on 5457 3333.

We want to help you find the answers you are looking for to help your child.  We’re not here to sell useless glasses or lenses to you!

I promise that I will sit and explain exactly how your child’s vision problems affect their learning, and I will also explain what you can do about it.  What is the point of testing something when I cannot help you to overcome it?

I spend a lot of time explaining things to mums and dads, so that you as a parent can understand exactly what is going on, and make an informed decision as to how you want to help your child!

or Call Us directly on 5457 3333

This bit is easy, and we are as close as your phone!  It will cost you absolutely nothing to have a comprehensive vision analysis for your child.  Even if your child has recently had an eye examination elsewhere, we won’t charge you (in fact, Darin will be paid less!).

We will ask you to sit in on the consultation and ask as many questions as you want, and we are confident that you will see for yourself how different Eye CU is.  When you experience Darin’s explanation you will understand why he is the Behavioural Optometrist Sunshine Coast parents often turn to for real answers to their children’s learning.

He will clearly lay out what is happening and how you can help your child, and he will explain exactly what you need to do to help them (plus we have great deals on frame and lens packages and therapy if required).

 Why Consider a Children’s Optometrist?

In the classroom vision is the dominant sense with up to 80% of all information coming in by the eyes.  The visual skills we learn and acquire as we grow are what reading, spelling and writing development depends on.

Most Optometrists test children, but they test them like miniature adults, and prescribe a lens or some basic exercises without listening to your concerns about your child.  Doctor Darin believes your kids deserve better than that!

The most frequent symptom of vision difficulty is not sore eyes, headaches or blurriness, it  is poor concentration, something you frequently find among children with learning disabilities when they face school work or computer studies (but not computer games… there’s a reason for that, ask Dr Darin later).

Why Consider Darin Browne and Eye CU Optometrists?

As a Behavioural Optometrist for over 25 years, I can assure you that I’m not motivated by money or sales in glasses, but by seeing children who were once struggling at school overcome their learning difficulties and become successful students.

My goals are your goals when it comes to helping children.

I have decided to focus on helping children with learning disabilities improve their concentration, motivation and to helping them obtain the visual skills they require to shine in their academic endeavours.

After years of practice as a children’s optometrist, these are not idle words but I have a proven track record for helping kids, and regularly receive referrals from most of the major schools on the Sunshine Coast, some close and some as far away as Gympie or Kingaroy.

Plus, I have designed an exclusive therapy program especially for children with learning disabilities which is a lot more than just a string and bead exercise!  In it we train skills like focus, visual memory, eye teaming, hand-eye, directions and fine and gross motor.  By investing only 20 minutes a day you can radically enhance your child’s learning skills, from learning to hold a pencil to the basics of forming letters, right through to reading flow, following without losing their place and comprehension.

If your child can learn these important basic skills, school can become fun and learning is easy!

Your Child Deserves a Fair Go in the Classroom!

Your child is not a little adult, and we should not examine a child’s eyes like they are tiny adults (nor should we prescribe a lens in the same way)!

Their vision is in a constant state of development, their needs are different, their ability to cope with stress is also different and the pressures they face are not the same as an adult.  Trust me, there is more to checking a child’s eyes than measuring how farsighted or nearsighted they are!

So why treat them the same as adults?

You probably feel that your child deserves the best eye testing and treatment available, from someone who is passionate about helping them, competently trained and farsighted in his approach.  Darin won’t just do a group of adult based tests that have no bearing on how your child learns in the classroom day to day.

Behavioural Optometrists are different to regular Optometrists because they look at the entire process of testing a child, especially a child with learning disabilities, in a completely different way.

In fact, we’re so different, we want you to sit in and see for yourself, and understand why we would recommend certain lenses or therapies.

After all, you are with them every day and you know their problems better than most, so we should be focusing on your goals rather than our own agenda!
